Enjoy and GO VOLS It case you want to know how the name VOLUNTEERS came about, please read on and you will get a bit of a history to carry with you. The name is the result of the War of 1812 when General Andrew Jackson mustered large armies to fight the Indians. But the best example, it was during the Mexican War when the Governor Aaron Brown requested 2,600 men to battle General Santa Anna. Approximately 30,000 Tennesseans answered the call and thus, the "VOLUNTEER" state was born. How about those Vols! Also check the facts about the Lady Vols, they are great too.
